How we help you plan

A relaxed elopement usually comes down to three decisions: what kind of day you want, which region fits that vision, and how the day should flow.

01.

Start with the experience

Tell us whether you imagine a sunrise hike, a private ceremony, a mountain inn dinner, a few guests, or simply a quiet day for the two of you. Once the feeling is clear, the planning gets much easier.

Choose the right place and season

Zermatt, Lauterbrunnen, Appenzell, Engadin and Lucerne all look incredible, but they work very differently in terms of access, privacy, weather and walking effort. We help you choose a region that fits your pace, priorities and travel style.

Planning an elopement in Appenzell

Appenzell and Eastern Switzerland are home for us. We know the iconic places like Seealpsee, Äscher and Säntis, but we also know the quieter corners that feel more private and less predictable.

If you love textured limestone peaks, green meadows, moody weather and a region that feels local instead of overdone, Appenzell is one of the most beautiful places to elope in Switzerland.

”Our elopement in Appenzell was beyond perfect!”

Switzerland elopement planning

Your questions, answered

01.

Switzerland offers an unusual amount of variety in a very small country. You can choose dramatic peaks, alpine lakes, waterfalls, scenic villages, mountain inns and elegant hotels without spending your entire day in transit.

It is also one of the easiest alpine countries to travel through. Trains, roads, cable cars and mountain hotels make it possible to plan a day that feels adventurous without becoming chaotic.

02.

Spring (April–May): fresh green meadows, snowy peaks and fewer visitors. A beautiful choice if you want softness and quieter views.

Summer (June–September): the easiest season for hiking, mountain lakes and flexible location choices.

Autumn (late September–October): golden larches, softer light, moody weather and fewer crowds. One of the strongest seasons for atmosphere.

Winter (December–March): snow, cozy huts and a slower pace. Best for couples who want winter mood rather than maximum flexibility.

There is no single best season. The right answer depends on the experience you want, how much walking feels comfortable and what kind of weather you love.

03.

An elopement is a small and intentional wedding day. For some couples it means private vows at sunrise. For others it means a short walk, a scenic ceremony spot, dinner in the mountains and maybe a handful of guests.

The most important part is that the day feels personal, calm and built around what matters most to you.

04.

Yes, but the legal marriage has to go through a Swiss civil registry office and requires advance paperwork. For many international couples, the simpler option is to complete the legal marriage at home and celebrate a symbolic ceremony in Switzerland.

If you want the legal part in Switzerland, check the requirements early with the relevant civil registry office or the Swiss representation responsible for your place of residence.

05.

Switzerland is not a cheap destination, but an elopement can still be far simpler than a large traditional wedding. Costs depend mostly on the region, guest count, travel flow, accommodation and how much planning support you need.

A two-person or very small mountain wedding usually needs less decor, fewer logistics and fewer suppliers. Mountain inns can also be much more affordable than luxury hotels.

06.

Zermatt & the Matterhorn
A Switzerland elopement with the Matterhorn in the background is iconic. At Riffelsee, the peak reflects in the morning light – a place so still and magical it feels as if time stands still for a moment.

Lauterbrunnen & Jungfrau Region
Waterfalls, green valleys, and small villages like Wengen or Muerren – everything here feels straight out of a fairy tale. Vows with a view of Staubbach Falls or a hike high above the valley feel unmistakably Swiss.

Appenzellerland & Alpstein
Our home. Here, the mountains are less known but full of character. Places like Seealpsee and Berggasthaus Aescher combine tradition with wild beauty. Perfect for anyone looking for an intimate elopement in Eastern Switzerland.

Engadin & St. Moritz
In autumn, the larches turn golden and reflect in turquoise mountain lakes. The vastness of Engadin creates a sense of freedom that is hard to find anywhere else. It is a beautiful place to elope in Switzerland.

Oeschinensee & Kandersteg
One of Switzerland’s most beautiful mountain lakes – turquoise blue, framed by steep rock faces. Up here, every ceremony feels like a small adventure.

Bernese Oberland
From Interlaken to Grindelwald – mountains, glaciers, alpine pastures. Here you’ll find countless hidden spots for couples seeking both impressive backdrops and quiet moments.

Lucerne & Pilatus
A combination of lake, city, and mountains. Ideal if you want a Switzerland elopement that combines nature and culture – perhaps with a boat trip in the evening.
