One moment the summit is covered in thick fog, the next the sun is back. It’s hard to predict what the weather will do up there. Even when the sky looks clear, the last clouds often hang around the peak.
And the wind on Säntis should never be underestimated. It can add a dramatic look to your Säntis wedding photos that no decoration could ever create — and no wedding hairstyle will survive.

The best time of year to get married on Säntis.
Winter
Schwägalp is easy to reach by car in winter, and the roads are regularly cleared — making arrival and logistics much simpler for you and your guests.
Up on the Säntis summit, winter conditions are a different story. Many couples dream of photos on the observation platform, but temperatures can drop to around –20°C (–4°F) and strong winds are common.
Not all terraces are cleared of snow, either. For these reasons, we generally don’t recommend summit photos in winter.
A much better option is staying down at Hotel Säntis on Schwägalp. You’ll still have a stunning, snowy mountain backdrop for your winter wedding — and you’re right next to the Laternliweg, a romantic winter walking trail through the fir forest lit by hundreds of little oil lamps.

Spring & Summer
Important: Spring arrives much later on Säntis than down in the valley. If you’re not a fan of snow, don’t come before June — even in May the peaks can still be deeply covered.
In spring and summer, the days are usually less windy. Still, it can get surprisingly chilly on the summit — especially toward evening. Bring a jacket and plan for cooler temperatures.
And yes — we’ve even seen fresh snow in the middle of summer. Säntis isn’t called “the weather mountain” for nothing.
If you’re dreaming of an unforgettable sunset wedding shoot on the Säntis summit, keep this in mind: the last regular cable car down runs at 5:00 PM.
In summer, sunset happens much later — which can be tricky if you’ve planned dinner down at Schwägalp. A great alternative here is an after-wedding shoot.

Autumn
A Säntis wedding in autumn is beautiful — and our clear favorite. If you dream of a sea of clouds in the valley below and couple photos in warm evening light on the summit, plan your Säntis wedding for early autumn.
Temperatures are a bit cooler than in summer, but with a jacket (and a little grit) it’s easy to handle. The reward is unforgettable photos.
Down at Hotel Säntis on Schwägalp, you can also take stunning wedding photos in the colorful autumn landscape.
Just don’t wait too long. Autumn on Säntis starts earlier than in the valley and doesn’t last long. The first snow can fall in early October, and conditions can change fast.

Right next to the valley station of the Säntis cable car on Schwägalp, you’ll find Hotel Säntis. With 68 comfortable rooms and suites, it offers plenty of space for you and your guests.
For many couples, Hotel Säntis is the best base for a Säntis wedding: you can do your getting ready and first look at the hotel in the morning. Then you and your guests take the cable car up to the summit for the ceremony and couple photos.
In the evening, dinner and the afterparty usually take place back at the hotel. This gives you the adventure of the mountain — and the comfort of a warm, cozy place to celebrate.
