The mountains are calling you!

You put on your headlamps, take each other’s hand, and we start hiking. Your wedding dress is carefully packed in your backpack, your hiking boots are laced tight, and a warm jacket keeps you comfortable.

After about half an hour, the fog begins to lift. A small mountain lake appears in front of us — calm and still. The sun is just breaking over the peaks. An unforgettable sight.

Switzerland is a dream destination for a mountain wedding or elopement. In a small area, you get an incredible variety of landscapes that feel straight out of a storybook — dramatic peaks in Valais like the Matterhorn, the Bernese Oberland around Gstaad, and charming traditional towns like Appenzell or St. Moritz.

Thanks to its central location in Europe and an excellent transportation network, Switzerland is easy to reach for you and your guests in every season.

Spring: (April–May): blooming meadows, snow-capped peaks, fewer tourists. Perfect if you love fresh colors.
Summer: (June–September): open mountain passes, long days, alpine lakes, full freedom for locations. Ideal for adventure and hiking.
Autumn: (October): golden larches in the Engadin, moody fog in Appenzell, fewer visitors. Quiet, atmospheric — our favorite.
Winter: (December–March): snow-covered mountains, fondue in a hut, a fairytale feeling. Perfect if you love snow and coziness.

There’s no single best season — there’s the one that fits you. We’ll help you find the right time and the right location for your Elopement.

An Elopement is a wedding free from expectations. It’s often just the two of you — or a very small group — in a truly special place. An Elopement in Switzerland is often paired with a beautiful hike and a day in the Alps, focused on what matters to you, without rules or pressure.

If you love the mountains and nature, enjoy hiking, and don’t want a big traditional celebration, an Elopement might be exactly right for you.

A legally binding marriage in Switzerland takes place at the civil registry office. That’s where you sign the legal documents, with two witnesses.

The ceremony itself is often short (around 15 minutes), but the required documents must be submitted and approved months in advance.

International couples submit their documents through their consulate or directly with the civil registry office. Once everything is approved (and you have the right visa if needed), you can complete the legal ceremony in Switzerland before heading into the mountains.

Alternatively, you can take care of the legal part at home first.

05.

Weddings in Switzerland can be expensive. But if you choose a small mountain wedding — an elopement — it can also be done on a more modest budget.

Mountain inns are often much more affordable than luxury hotels, and many of the typical wedding costs (big décor, extensive planning, extras) simply aren’t needed for an elopement in Switzerland.

This is easiest when it’s just the two of you. If you’re not sure what makes sense for your plans, we’re happy to advise you.
