Where to find the perfect wedding venue in Switzerland?

There are literally thousands of wedding venues in Switzerland.

Quick disclaimer, there are literally thousands of wedding venues in Switzerland. If you’re eloping, the options are even more vast.

For those who find beauty in the mountains, the outdoors, and each other.

If that sounds like your style as a couple, we’ll probably get along great! Here are some of the best places we would recommend searching for your wedding venue.

Appenzell

Where Tradition Meets the Mountains.

This small region in Eastern Switzerland offers everything couples look for in an authentic mountain wedding — dramatic peaks, quiet lakes, and traditions that are still alive today.

Why Appenzell Is a Dream Setting for Your Mountain Wedding.

Imagine saying yes as the morning fog lifts over Seealpsee, celebrating with local specialties like Appenzeller cheese and mountain honey, and ending your evening under a sky full of stars.

Whether you choose the iconic Aescher guesthouse, the calm of Ebenalp, or the panoramic views from Säntis — Appenzell gives your wedding not just a view, but a story.

Why Appenzell is perfect for your wedding:

  • Breathtaking spots, all close together: From Seealpsee to Aescher, Ebenalp, and the Säntis summit – every location is within easy reach, no long hikes or travel needed.
  • Peace over popularity: Far quieter than Zermatt or Lauterbrunnen, Appenzell offers privacy, space, and real connection without crowds.
  • Effortless logistics: Easy access by car or cable car, short walks between photo locations, and flexible options in any weather.
  • Distinct Alpine character: Rugged limestone peaks, green valleys, and traditional houses give your photos a look that’s unmistakably Appenzell.

Zermatt

Where Mountains Feel Cinematic.

Home of the iconic Matterhorn and stunningly calm Riffelsee, Zermatt is the place to go if you want your wedding in Switzerland to have a near cinematic experience to it.

Although the Matterhorn might be the most iconic view in Zermatt, there are plenty of other mountain views that might pique your interest here.

A Destination That Feels Like an Experience.

An exciting, but constraining, quality of Zermatt is that it’s a car-free town. You will have to plan to arrive via train for your big day. Although you might not be able to drive here, it’s perfect for couples who want their wedding location to feel like an experience, not just a place to exchange vows.

Luxury Meets the Outdoors.

Along with year-round skiing options, Zermatt is also a great location if you’re looking for that perfect place between luxury experiences at hotels and resorts, and the stunning outdoor scenery that only the Swiss Alps can provide.

Some of the most popular venues there are Grand Hotel Zermatterhof, the CERVO Mountain Resort, and several others.

Why Zermatt is perfect for your wedding:

  • Cinematic views at every turn: The Matterhorn and Riffelsee offer unmatched backdrops for ceremonies, portraits, and sunset sessions.
  • A car-free, peaceful village: No traffic, no stress — just mountain air, quiet streets, and a setting made for slow, intentional days.
  • Effortless luxury: From five-star hotels to rustic chalets, Zermatt balances comfort, cuisine, and pure alpine charm.
  • A destination that feels like a journey: The train ride into Zermatt sets the tone — remote, exclusive, and unlike anywhere else in Switzerland.

The Engadin and
St. Moritz

When Awe Meets Altitude.

In the southernmost point of eastern Switzerland you’ll find the Engadin: an alpine valley surrounded by breathtaking peaks, awe-inspiring glaciers, and vibrant blue lakes.

If you’re looking for a breathtaking view with plenty of activities to try while traveling, you’re in the right place.

Luxury in Harmony with Nature.

St. Moritz is just one of the many picturesque villages located in the Engadin, but it happens to be one of our favorites due to its high-end amenities complimenting the natural beauty of the alps.

St. Moritz offers a variety of luxury hotels, mountaintop restaurants, and lakeside destinations, which makes it an ideal spot for your wedding or elopement. Badrutt’s Palace Hotel and the Berghotel Randolins are some of the more stand-out venues here.

All Seasons, Endless Beauty.

If you’re looking to elope or plan your wedding for the Engadin or St. Moritz, you’ll have the luxury of picking any time of year, since the attractions fit well for all seasons.

We, however, would recommend the winter or late summer/early fall, to take advantage of the natural beauty of the region.

Why St. Moritz is perfect for your wedding:

  • A landscape made of light: Over 300 days of sunshine each year and the valley’s dry air make for crisp, luminous wedding photos.
  • Luxury without limits: Iconic venues like Badrutt’s Palace and Randolins combine top-tier service with breathtaking alpine views.
  • Seamless access: Cable cars, scenic roads, and the world-famous Bernina Express make reaching mountain spots easy for every guest.
  • A destination for all seasons: Snow-covered elegance in winter or golden larch forests in autumn — St. Moritz is always ready for your celebration.

Interlaken

Where Lakes and Mountains Meet.

An easily accessible, but equally stunning place to plan your wedding or elopement is Interlaken. Literally translating to “between two lakes”, Interlaken provides you with the luxury hotels, dining, and activities you would get with not one, but two stunning lakes.

A Place for Every Kind of Celebration.

With a variety of venues ranging from luxury hotels, historic castles, lakeside views, and snow capped mountains, Interlaken offers all the variety Switzerland has to offer in wedding locations, with the convenience of being only 25 minutes from Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald, and only 2 hours from Zurich International Airport.

You could have your ceremony in a historic castle like Schloss Spiez or Schloss Oberhofen, while still enjoying a convenient location.

Adventure and Ease Combined.

If you’d prefer to stay longer and explore the area, Interlaken is a great place for hiking, skiing, sledding, and exploring local shops. Your guests will have no trouble finding things to do here, or your elopement can be just one part of a dynamic trip to explore the area.

We recommend booking here between June and September to take advantage of the warmest months and the greenest scenery, or during the winter for a magical snowy experience for your wedding.

Why Interlaken is perfect for your wedding:

  • Two lakes, endless views: Celebrate between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, with alpine peaks reflected in turquoise water.
  • Venues with history and charm: From Schloss Spiez to Schloss Oberhofen, Interlaken combines romance and heritage.
  • Perfectly connected: Just 25 minutes from Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald — ideal for mixing ceremony, photos, and travel with ease.
  • Adventure meets elegance: Paragliding, boat rides, mountain railways — Interlaken blends action and atmosphere like nowhere else.

Lauterbrunnen & Grindelwald

Between Waterfalls and Wild Peaks.

Lauterbrunnen delivers what many fantasy-wedding boards promise: towering cliffs, dozens of waterfalls, lush meadows and that “movie scene” height of drama. For couples seeking dramatic backdrops, it’s compelling.

However — and this is important — Lauterbrunnen’s very fame has turned into a drawback: the village is heavily trafficked by visitors and can feel less private or intimate than you might hope.  If your priority is secluded moments, it may require careful planning (early morning, off-peak seasons, less-visited trails).

Grindelwald – The Better Balance.

Grindelwald, just a short hop from Lauterbrunnen, offers similar alpine grandeur but with more flexibility in terms of venues, services and ambiance: mountain ridges, panoramic overlooks, accommodation and wedding-services all more accessible.

For weddings with guests, or for couples wanting a balance of wild scenery and logistical support, Grindelwald is often the stronger choice.

A Setting That Fits Every Vision.

Since you value nature, authenticity, and the less-crowded photographic moment, I’d lean Grindelwald as your primary recommendation for clients seeking alpine weddings in that region.

If you opt for Lauterbrunnen, I’d advise scheduling shoots at dawn, selecting less-visited spots, and managing expectations about background “tourist energy”.

Why Lauterbrunnen & Grindelwald is the perfect spot for your wedding:

  • Unreal backdrops, real locations: 72 waterfalls, glacier views, and the Eiger North Face — all within easy reach.
  • Crowds or calm — your choice: Lauterbrunnen stuns at sunrise; Grindelwald offers space and quiet any time of year.
  • Perfect for guests: Excellent hotels, mountain railways, and venues make Grindelwald ideal for destination weddings.
  • Nature’s drama, balanced with ease: From wild cliffs to cozy chalets, this region gives you cinematic scenery without the stress.

FAQ – Wedding Venues Switzerland

01.

For small elopements, most mountain or lakeside spots don’t require a permit — as long as it’s a symbolic ceremony and you respect the area.
However, places like cable car stations, hotels, or private chalets often do. We’ll help you confirm everything with the local municipality or venue before you book.

02.

June to October offers the most reliable weather, open trails, and accessible mountain roads.
Autumn brings golden light and fewer crowds, while winter creates magical snow-covered scenery — perfect for intimate celebrations.

03.

Yes — many venues in Switzerland offer both.
For example, couples often hold their ceremony on the Säntis summit or Ebenalp, followed by dinner and an overnight stay in a nearby mountain hotel.
It’s convenient, intimate, and lets you stay in one unforgettable setting all day.

04.

Elopement spots (like Seealpsee or Riffelsee) are public, scenic places — perfect for smaller celebrations or photo sessions.
Wedding venues (like CERVO ZermattBadrutt’s Palace, or Hotel Säntis) provide full hospitality: catering, guest rooms, and event coordination.
We help couples find the balance between wild nature and comfortable celebration.

05.

Not usually.
Legal (civil) ceremonies must take place in a registry office (Zivilstandsamt). Most couples sign the paperwork there and then have a symbolic or religious ceremony at their chosen venue.

06.

For summer weekends, 9–12 months in advance is ideal.
If you’re flexible with weekdays or off-season dates, 3–6 months is often enough — especially for smaller elopements or mountain lodges.
