Winter Wedding in Switzerland – Why Schwägalp in Appenzell Is So Special?
Winter on Schwägalp is the kind of beautiful that doesn’t feel real until you’re standing in it. Snow on the fir trees, that crisp alpine air, and a calm that instantly slows everything down. One of my favorite little moments here is the Laternliweg (Lantern Trail)—it starts right by Hotel Säntis and in the evening it’s lit with oil lanterns. It’s cozy, romantic, and honestly perfect if you want photos that feel warm even in the middle of winter.
And that’s exactly why so many couples use Hotel Säntis as their home base for a winter celebration. With 68 rooms and suites, it’s easy to keep everyone together and make the day feel effortless—no complicated winter logistics, no bouncing between locations, just a smooth, relaxed flow.
Most days start with getting ready downstairs at the hotel, followed by a quiet first look before the adventure begins. Then you and your guests take the cable car up to the Säntis summit for the ceremony and a short couple session with those iconic Swiss views all around you.
Afterwards, everyone heads back down for dinner and the after-party in the hotel’s cozy spaces—warm light, good food, and that “we just did this in the snow” kind of feeling. It’s the best mix of both worlds: a mountain wedding that feels like an adventure, without ever giving up comfort and warmth.
